Become an Assistant Coach – Help our Sport!

Please help our sport!

Without enough qualified coaches, the success of the last few years cannot be repeated or improved upon.

A new generation is required to assist with the nurture our young people, to guide our current runners, throwers and jumpers and advise mature athletes returning or trying the sport for the first time.

This November Saturday 26th & Sunday 27th The IOMAA is staging a course facilitated by England Athletics to help you become an Assistant Coach, the first rung on the ladder to gaining your Coach Award.

It is open for all people over the age of 16.

The IOMAA is generously donating £100 towards the £245 fee and there is a further discount for being a club member.

If you are not a club member, please join one, as it will be cheaper than paying the extra £60.

Therefore please send a cheque to:
Michael George, 27 WOODBURN SQUARE, IM1 4DE, made out to IOMAA NOT England Athletics as it says on the form or BACS to 14347237 55-91-00 with Assistant Coach as the reference.

More information is available here.

I would be grateful to receive your application at your earliest convenience as time is no longer on our side and the Isle of Man must display enough enthusiasm for England Athletics to run the course.

Manx Fell Runners continues to provide young fell runners with experience on a national stage by assisting athletes to attend the English Schools Fell Running Championships. It is the intention of the club to send up to 12 athletes in 2017.

There is no single trial race. Instead, performances in the following events, from 1 September 2016 will be used to guide selection:

    a. athletes will be eligible for selection if they are entering school years 7-13 on 1 September 2017

Selection Process

  1. The team will be selected in one selection meeting in July 2017 and successful athletes will be contacted by email.
  2. Any athletes completing three or more FRA Junior Championship Races or BOFRA Junior Series Races will be automatically selected.
  3. The selectors will endeavor to enter athletes in four of the eight race categories to ensure eligibility for the overall School trophy.
  4. Athletes may be selected for their perceived potential and selection will not necessarily be based on an athlete’s current performances.
  5. The number of athletes selected will be dependent on accommodation availability and financial budgetary constraint.
  6. Athletes will be expected to contribute towards the cost of the trip although this cost is likely to be heavily subsidised.
  7. Team vests will be provided for use on the day only.
  8. The decision of the selectors is final.

Athletics to be audited by Talent Development Advisor, Paul Jones.

Paul will be spending time over the coming 10 weeks to learn more about athletics, uncover the positives and understand the challenges being faced. This means he will be at various training/coaching sessions, attending meetings and talking to a wide range of people involved in our sport.

If you see him at a session, please feel free to say hello and offer any thoughts/ideas you may have to improve our sport or the sport your child performs in.move-to-perform

You will also have an opportunity to provide further feedback by completing an online survey when it is released in a couple of weeks’ time.

The ultimate aim of this project is to increase the number of athletes from the Isle of Man who are able to compete and win at World and Commonwealth level in senior competition.

Full details of what the project entails is available for you to view here.
